FEWER STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITY.

AUCKLAND ASKS HELP FOR SPECIAL SCHOOLS.

(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, August 21. A decrease in the rolls at the Auckland University College for the first half of 1928, compared with the same period last year, was shown in a report furnished to the University College Council yesterday. The registrar referred to the decrease as an unexpected state of affairs. Th--report stated that there were 1410 students enrolled, compared with 1455 last year. The college did not now receive the £3OO annual grant raised through the architectural profession and business men of Auckland for the past three years for the School of Architecture. It was hoped, however, that the Government would this year bring all the college special schools a little nearer into line with all those in the south. With the exception of the youngest special school (forestry), no special school in Auckland received an annual grant, and no special school in the south was without one.
