HEALTH WEEK CAMPAIGN MOOTED AT COUNCIL MEETING.

Referring to a letter received from the Health Week Committee of the Royal Sanitary Institute suggesting that the City Council should take steps to conduct a “ Health Week’* campaign on similar lines to that conducted in previous years, the Health Committee reported to the City Council last night that, while it was sympathetic to the proposal, it regretted it was unable to conduct the campaign this year. Councillor Clyde Carr said he was sorry that the committee felt that it could not do anything in regard to a Health Week this year. There was a good deal of epidemic sickness about, and some of it, he considered, was preventable. Seeing that the committee was unable to do anything in the matter, he felt it would be a good thing it some other public organisation would take it up. Councillor G. Manning, chairman of the committee, said that all the mem bers were sympathetic with the proposal, but as they were engaged fully with other matters, they felt that they could not. afford the time to organise a Health Week. At the same time, if any other member of the council was willing to undertake the work of organ ising a campaign, the committee would be glad of such assistance. Councillor Carr suggested that the Mayor should call a public meeting to discuss the matter, and the Mayor expressed his willingness to carry out the suggestion.

On this understanding the report was adopted.
