The Town Clerk of Sumner wrote to the Tramway Board yesterday in regard to land it is sought to vest in the Borough Council near the embankment and work to be done in connection with the erection of a wall. The letter stated that the Borough Council had not been committed to any liability in connection with the wall. Mr J. A. Flesher moved that the board should affirm that a distinct arrangement was made, and that, until the Borough Council was prepared to stand by the arrangement, the board should take steps to prevent the passing of the Sumner Borough Land Vesting Bill in its present form. “We should be kept on ?ide," Mr Flesher said. “The board should protect its own interests." Mrs E. R. M'Combs said that a Sumner deputation had waited on the board, but there was nothing to show ! that members of the deputation could commit the Borough Council to any arrangement.
