ADDINGTON BURGESSES HAVE MONTHLY MEETING.

The Addington Burgesses’ Association held its general monthly meeting in the St Mary’s schoolroom last evening, Mr P. J. Molloy presiding over a good attendance.

Mr R. Aitcheson was elected a member of the association.

A motion of condolence expressing the association's regret with Mr E. Pritchard in his recent bereavement was passed, members standing.

A letter was received from the Canterbury Automobile Association regarding the suggested improvement to Munnings’s corner, stating that the matter had been gone into some time previously, and would entail an expenditure

of £l5O. It also stated that Messrs F. W. Freeman and J- Hawkes would interview the Electricity Department and ascertain if anything could be done in the matter.

A letter in respect of a suggestion from the association that the iron fence at the corner of Moorhouse Avenue and Selwyn Street be removed was received from Messrs A. S Paterson and Co., Ltd. The letter suggested that one bay on either frontage of the corner should be removed and substituted with wire. This proposal was approved and it was decided to notify Messrs Paterson and Co. accord ingl y.'

A letter was received from the City Council in respect to the proposed highways loan of £220,000 asking whether the association desired the special committee of the council to wait upon the association to give further information on the subject. It pointed out the approaching date of the referendum and the desirability of having meet ings arranged in good time.
