Suffocation through muco pus coming from the nose was the cause of the death of a three-months’-old baby boy on August 11. The child had been suffering from a cold, and was found dead in bed. At the inquest this afternoon Lucy Ellen Kathleen Farmer, of 44, Clifton Street, Addington, the mother of the boy, said that on the evening of August 10 the child was put to bed with a cold in the chest and head. The child was breast-fed at about 5 a.m. on Au gust 13, after which, with the baby in her bed, witness went to sleep again. Witness awoke at 6.45 a.m., to find the child dead beside her. The child had not been overlain. Dr A. B. I’earson, pathologist at the Christchurch Hospital, who, ut the request of the Coroner, had made a post-mortem examination, said that death was caused by suffocation, due to blockage of the air passages with muco pus coming from the nose. With regard to the cable message that Sir Joseph Ward had received an offer of the leadership of the United Party, Mr Forbes states that, us far as he was aware, no requisition has been sent to Sir Joseph Ward.
