Mrs A. T. Chapman and Miss Molly Chapman (Knowles Street) are leaving to-morrow for a trip to Auckland. Mr and Mrs R. T. Tosswill (Fendalton) are returnnig to-morrow morning from a trip to Sydney. Miss A. Crosson and Miss C. Thaw, left. Christchurch yesterday to spend a holiday in Timaru. Miss Eileen Toomey will return to her home in Temuka to-day, to spend an extended holiday. Mr and Mrs W. Taylor (Dunedin) and Mr and Mrs L. J. Murray (Marlborough) are at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. Sawell (Timaru) and Mr and Mrs W. Gavey (Auckland) are at the Clarendon Hotel. Miss Holloway, Invercargill, who was in Christchurch for the race week festivities. will leave for the south to-day. Miss Molly Ogg, who was the guest of Mrs F. W. Taylor, Spreydon South, has returned to Nelson. Amongst guests at the United Service Hotel are Mrs V. LeCren (Fairlie), Mrs A. Macalister (Invercargill), and Mr and Mrs J. F. Child (Honolulu). Mr and Mrs G. Leslie Rutherford and Miss Betty Rutherford, Macdonald Downs, have returned to their home. Culverden, after a short stay in Christchurch. Mrs W. Brown (president) and Miss Mabel Gray (secretary), of the Canterbury Bacsketbali Association, went north last evening to represent Canterbury at the annual meeting of the New Zealand association, to be held in Auckland, commencing on Wednesday. At the successful coin afternoon held at Mrs Evans’s home. Suffolk Street, in aid of the new Methodist Church at Linwood, a very interesting address was given by Mrs Watkins. Amongst those present were Mesdames Sharp, Falconer, J. Chesterton, Sadler, liiron, Worsfold, Hoddinott, Stokes, Strong, Lomas, Crothall, Carmalt, Smith, Gasson, Birks, FI. M’Pherson (Invercargill), Mrs Tholl (Nelson). Miss Faith Ashford, B.Sc. (London), has been appointed kindergarten lecturer at the Dunedin Training College. At the present time Miss Ashford is demonstrator in education, lecturer in infant and junior method, and teacher of handcrafts at Reading University. She is the authoress of "Child-Plan in Britain,” and joint authoress of “An English Primary School.” Prior to her appointment at Reading University, she was head of the Fielden Demonstration School, Manchester University.

On Saturday last at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Smith, Shirley, i an enjoyable farewell evening was tendered to Miss Connie Dunne on the eve of her departure for her home in Sydney, after an absence of two and a half years. The time was passed very pleasantly in games and musical items interspersed with dancing. Miss Dunne was the recipient of many useful gifts. Those present included: Mr and Mrs F. Smith, Mrs A, P. de la Cour, Misses j Connie Dunne, Marcella Smith, Kath Smith, Winifred Bust, Mabel Harrison, Maisie M’Lennan, Nell Ives, Eileen Ives. Smith and W. Moulin. The monthly meeting of the Richmond Free Kindergarten was held in the Wesleyan Sunday School room. There was a good attendance of members. Miss Tabart (convener) was in the chair and Mrs Dixon represented the Mothers’ committee. The head mistress, Miss Jacobsen, reported the roll number at 43, with a highest attendance of 35 and a lowest of 15. The average was 31. There were only seven days on which the attendance was under half, against 34 for the corresponding period last year. The sale qi bottles brought in 12s 6d. Ex-pupils of the school are meeting once a week to work for a bazaar, which will be held before Christmas.
