SUMNER COUNCIL.

To The Editor. Dear Sir, —I notice from your report of the last meeting of the Sumner Borough Council that there is a serious danger of “Poobah rule” being restored out there. Since affairs benefited from an infusion of new blood, the individual committees have operated as they do on other councils, each committee concentrating on its own department. The proposal now is to revert to the bad old way of constituting the whole council a committee, much as obtained with the Christchurch Tramways Board. Let us hope that those members of the council who wish to maintain their independence will succeed in sticking to their guns, in the interests of progress and efficiency. —Yours, etc., SPECTATOR. 18-8-28.
