WITHDRAWAL OF HEAVY TRAFFIC TAX URGED ON PREMIER.
CARBONATED WATERS ASSOCIATION DECISION.
At the annual meeting of the Carbonated Waters Association of New Zealand held in Christchurch, the following resolution was passed: “ Thai; this meeting protests against the ex cessive taxation imposed on trade vehicles and considers that the heavy traffic tax should be withdrawn now that the petrol tax is in force.” In moving the motion, Kir Wright stated that he was one of the deputation from Canterbury to Mr Coates and Mr Furkert when the heavy traffic regulations were issued. Mr Coates made a definite statement that personally he considered the petrol tax the fairer, but owing to complications which would arise through the use of petrol in other industries, he did not see his way clear to support a straightout petrol tax. Since then he has found it possible to pass the petrol tax. and he considered that the time was overdue for the withdrawal of the heavy traffic tax. Kir Tisch (Hamilton, Kir Chittock (Timaru), Kir West (Wanganui), and other speakers spoke in favour of the motion, which wascarried unanimously.
