MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Three first offenders for drunkenness were each fined £l, the amount of their bail. ALLEGED CRUELTY. Robert Edward Mills, charged with cruelly striking a horse with a rail, was remanded for a week, bail being allowed in the sum of £25, with one surety of £25. Accused elected to be tried before a jury. BY-LAW CASES. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) CARRIERS’ DISCS. For failing to return their carriers’ discs the following were fined : W. Whittaker, 5s and costs, Francis Ormandy, 5s and costs; Popes Motors (taxi disc), 5s and costs on each of two charges; Elmo Lyons, 5s and costs. The following were convicted and discharged: D. Dorofaeff, L. Laugeson, A- G. Read, G. Walton and H. O. Williams (taxi plate).
SPEEDING. For speeding, J. D. M’Millan was fined 20s and costs.
NO LIGHTS. For cycling at night without a light Robert J. Mitchell was fined 10s and costs. (Before Mr H. P. La wry, S.M.) MAINTENANCE CASES. For disobedience of a maintenance order, George Malcolm Goss was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 2s 6d weekly off arrears. John Edward Hynes was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 5s weekly off arrears. William Abraham Blackmorc was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 7s 6d weekly off arrears. Clifford Ashley Pepper, for disobedience of a maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 7s 6d weeklvoff arrears. Arthur Albert Peterson was convicted and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 5s weeklt- off arrears. Gerald Richard Pigott Allpress was convicted and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 2s 6d weekly off arrears. Oliver Ernest Blackler and Donald Erikson were each convicted and ordered to pay £1 Is costs for disobedience of their maintenance orders. Separation, maintenance and guardianship orders in respect to his wife were issued against Norman Nevatt. Maintenance was fixed at 30s per week. A maintenance order for £2 5s a week in respect to his four children was issued against Albert Henry Parish. Separation, maintenance and guardianship orders in respect to his wife were issued against Rudolph Henry Schwartz. Maintenance was fixed at £2 5s per week.
