Recently, Mr F. R. Cooke, acting secretary of the New Zealand Federated Clothing Trade, wrote to the Prime Minister (Mr Coates) and the leader of the Opposition (Mr 11. E. Holland), expressing the view that the trade treaty which has been arranged between New Zealand and Japan was likely, to result in cheap Japanese labour competing with the' women and girls engaged in the clothing trade in New Zealand. Mr Cooke has now received a reply from the Prime Minister, stating that he will arrange for the representations to receive consideration. Mr Holland has also replied, stating that he will be glad to consult with the Canterbury and other Labour members regarding the matter.
