CANTERBURY WOMEN’S CLUB.
Seldom has the Canterbury Women’s Club looked more attractive than it did last evening, when a musical evening, arranged by Miss Alice Carter, was given to a large number of members. Bowls of spring flowers and spring flowering foliage decorated the recep-tion-room, and the glow from the fires gave warmth and comfort. Miss Spence (vice-president) welcomed the guests, and at the conclusion of the programme thanked Miss Carter and the performers for their excellent entertainment. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte duet. Miss Alice Carter and Mr Claude Davies; song. “Smilin’ Through” (Arthur Penn), and songs by Landon Ronald, Miss Sylvia Goss: songs, “ Three Shakespeare Songs ” (Roger Quilter) and “Summer Time at Bredon.” Dr J. C. Pairman; pianoforte solo. “Melody” (Paderewski), Mr Claude Davies; songs, “Open Thy Blue Eyes” (Massenet) and “Pot Pourr i” (Coningsby Clark), Miss Nancy Bowden; violin duet. Concerto (Bach). Messrs Bernard Barker and Alfred Brown, with Mr Claude Williams as accompanist. A dainty supper was served.
