MINISTERIAL. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon O. J. Hawken, visited Lincoln College on Saturday. lie left in the evening for the north. Mr T. K. Papprill was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court to-day, on the motion of Mr K. M. Gresson. Mr 11. J. Robinson has resigned his position as headmaster of the Picton School, which he has filled for twentyone years. Mr St Leger Harold Reeves was on Saturday admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Reed at New Plymouth. Messrs F. R. Cooke, H. C. Revell. H. Worrall and R. A. Brooks, who have been attending the National Industrial 'Conference at Wellington, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr P. Maclean, formerly of Dannevirke, who has been manager of the Blenheim branch of the National Bank for nearly four years, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the managership of the bank s Timaru branch. Mr Maclean will probably be leaving Blenheim in about a month s time. Mr W. E. Alexander, an old boy of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, well known in Taranaki football and cricket circles, has been appointed to a temporary position on the teaching staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He takes up his duties at the beginning of next month. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., Leader of the United Party, who returned to Christchurch from Wellington on Saturday morning after attending the meetings of the National Industrial Conference, will leave for Dunedin to-morrow, accompanied by Mr A. E. Davy, organiser of the United Party, on business connected with the organisation of the party. He preached at all the services in the Westport Church yesterday, and will speak at a public meeting there tonight. M’Calman. late supervisor of Wellington Telegraph Office, has taken up his duties in charge of the Telegraph Office at Palmerston North. Lieutenant E. 11. Brown, of the Regi ment of New Zealand Artillery, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Licensing Committees for the districts of Hutt and Wellington, vice Mr E. Page, S.M. Mr Douglas Hay, who managed the New Zealand cricket team on its tour to England, and who remained behind for business reasons, returned to New Zealand yesterday by the Aorangi. A through passenger to Sydney by the Aorangi, which arrived at Atickland yesterday, was Mr Walter Jardine. a Sydney artist, who has made a nßme in New York. Mr Jardine intends to settle in Australia. Dr Gordon F. Rich, who recently spent a few days with his parents, Mr and Mrs J Rich, Havelock North, has left for England, where he will do post-graduate work. The Rev James Black, D.D., arrived in Melbourne by the Orsova from London, to occupy the pulpit of Scots Church, Collins Street, for four months. He is considered to be one of the best preachers in Scotland. Ordained in 1903. he has been minister at St George's United Free Church, Edinburgh, since 1921. Some twenty-five members of the Police Force in the Invercargill district met at the Central Police Station on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Constable Austin, who has been transferred from the position of assistant district clerk to the charge of the district office in Greymouth. Constable Austin has bean stationed in Invercargill for the past twelve years He was the recipient of several valu able presents, including a dinner-set a clock and a pocket-book, the presentation being made by Senior-Sergeant Fox. Sergeant Henderson. DetectiveSergeant Hewitt and several other speakers referred eulogistically to Constable Austin, who suitably replied.
