AN EYE FOR EVERYTHING. A Unique Golf Club. More than 100 visitors from far distant parts of the globe can now boast of membership in the Hole-in-One Club of the Island of Hawaii, a unique organisation due to the fact that there is no other place in the world where a golfer can stand on the brink of an active volcano and drive a ball into a fire pit. Every person driving a golf ball from the, new “ nineteenth hole ” tee into the Halcm&mimau fire pit is issued a card of membership in the club. The drive, including the trajectory of the ball, is about 750 yards. Tortoise Racing As a Sport. The latest American sport is tortoiseracing. A circle 150 ft in diameter is marked on the ground, and the tortoises are placed in a pen iri the centre. The starter lifts the pen, and the race begins. The first' tortoise to reach the circumference of the circle wins. A tortoise derby was held on a ranch in Oklahoma four years ago, and became an annual event. Last year 650 tortoises were sent to the ranch from other States, and the total number of contestants w ? as 1679. Exciting moments occurred when favourites lay down to rest just as they were about to cross the winning line. *: « Royal Japanese Enthronement. Silver flower vases will be the gifts of the Japanese Emperor and Empress to the 1500 guests at the first of the two State banquets at the time of the enthronement next November, and the 300 guests attending the second banquet will be presented with cake bowls cast in solid silver, coated with gold, and bearing the Imperial crest of the 16petalled chrysanthemum. ' The Japanese nobility, other Japanese of high standing, the diplomatic corps, and the special envoys, with their suites, sent to the enthronement cercmonj', will be the guests at these banquets.
