TOMATO GROWERS HOLD MEETING.

A meeting of the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association was held on Saturday evening, when Mr C. J. Fineran presided. A report on the deputation which waited on the Canterbury members of Parliament Committee was received itom Messrs G. A. Billson and D. T. •Falla. ■ It was decided to send a copy of.the report to kindred associations and to Mr J. M’Combs, M.P.

A suggestion that all imported tomatoes, -when offered for sale, should be branded writh the place of origin, v 7 as made by the deputation in its report. The subject was discussed at length, some members urging that the district of origin of all New Zealand tomatoes should also be showm. The report was amended in this direction. It w 7 as decided to discuss at the next meeting the - application of the Fruiterers’ Association for aid in combating the new Act which required them to close early if they sold bedding plants and cut flowers.

Mr C. E. Pope was recommended as the association’s delegate to the Dominion conference.
