The brilliant Queensland sprinter T. Miles, who recently won the world’s sprint championship, has broken down badly, and it is feared he may not race again. During the interval of a Rugby League football match, played in Brisbane, Miles made an attempt on Banner’s record of 11 sec for 100 metres. The champion’s right thigh was heavily bandaged, and he had a noticeable limp in his preliminaries. At the pistol shot he made an attempt to run up to the field, but his hip went at half-way, where he collapsed and had to be carried back to the dressing room. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., Leader of the United Part3', returned to Christchurch from Wellington this morning after attending the meetings of the industrial conference. He will leave for Dunedin on Tuesday, accompanied by Mr A. E. Davy, organiser of the United Party, on business connected with the organisation of the party.
