£1571 RAISED FOR DEPENDENTS OF DEAD AVIATORS.

WIDOWS WILL RECEIVE SMALL SUM WEEKLY. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, May 19. A -meeting of the Hood-Moncrieff Fund Committee (Tasman flight) was presided over by the Mayor (Mr Tpoup). The total amount available for distribution was. he stated, £1571 2s lOd. At a previous meeting a resolution had been passed sanctioning the purchasing of annuities for the younger dependents. This would cost a great deal more than annuities for elderly folk, and the Public Trustee had pointed out that by investing the money with him they would get almost as much, whilst the capital would be preserved. He had advised that half the amount available, say 1/50, should be invested on behalf of Lieutenant. Moncrieff’s mother. The * young widows would get half that amount each, returning an income of 7s 6d a week They would, of course, get more when Mrs Moncrieff, sen., died. It was mentioned that the widows had already had £4OO at the wish of the donors of the money. The Public Trustee's proposal was agreed to. As the vote was not unanimous, and the Mayor was desirous of getting a unanimous decision, it was suggested that notice of motion should be given to rescind the resolution •of the previous meeting and that in the meantime, the feeling of large donors should be ascertained as to the allocation. When that was known the Mayor could call another meeting. This was agreed to.
