N.Z. UTILITY POULTRY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club was held in the Poultry Club rooms on Tuesday night. Mr J. D. Gobbe, president of the club, presided. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The balancesheet showed receipts £1222 19s 8d and the expenditure £IO7B Bs, leaving a credit balance of £144 11s Bd. Assets amounted to £938 14s 9d and liabilities to £321 16s 3d. The treasurer stated that the auditor suggested that the books of the club should be audited every six months and that a reserve fund should be started.

Mr Gobbe, in moving the adoption of the reports, congratulated the club on its sound financial position. Mr Hawke, in seconding the adoption of the reports, stated that it gave him great pleasure to see the splendid recovery the club had made in its financial position during the past three or four 3-ears. lie was pleased to see that there was an increased membership and that - the competitions had been well filled this year, the latter showing that great interest was being taken throughout New Zealand in the Papanui competitions and the club. The club’s egglaying competition at Papanui compared favourably* with any other test in the w'orld and was watched with keen interest b>- other countries. The competition had been the means of improving the poultry industry- generally and also the standard of fowls and eggs, and had been of great educational value to breeders. The treasurer in his report stated that the cost of feed per bird at the last competition was 16s Id and the nett profit per bird was 16s lid. The average price per dozen for eggs for the year worked out at Is 9id. The secretary' was granted an honorarium of £3l 10s and the treasurer an honorarium of £lO 10s, and the auditor was voted £2 2s. The Finance Committee reported that they- had considered the application of the caretaker for an increase in salary, but regretted they' were unable to suggest ah increase at present. Mrs Plough was granted £3 3s in recognition of her services in attending to visitors to the competition. The committee recommended that the office of secretary add treasurer be made one, and that £SO be paid into a fund, each year, with the view of securing a new competition ground. The Lyttelton Fanciers* Club wrote asking for a donation to the club’s show funds. The secretary was instructed to reply', regretting that the request could not be granted. A collection was taken up in the room and will be forwarded to the Lyttelton Club. The following additional life members were elected:—Messrs A. E. Wilson, W. A. Gee, S. Dick, W. E. Green, 11. Williams and G. H. Bradford. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr R. Nairn for the gift of a book entitled “Our Domestic Birds” to the club’s library. Mr R. W. Hawke moved a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring officers and committee, the Press and the Government poultry instructor for the valuable help during the past y*ear. Mr Gobbe seconded the motion, which was passed unanimously. Mr. Le Page was elected the club’s official carrier for the y’ear.
