WASHINGTON LODGE. NO. 28. The fortnightly meeting was held last Monday night, Noble Grand Brother F. Schwartz presiding. The sum of £l2 16s 8d was passed for sick pay and £lB7 Os 7d for expenditure. One brother was granted a transfer to the Bluff Lodge. Brother F. Lane was granted a transfer to Wellington. Two candidates were initiated into the Order and ten candidates were proposed for membership. After a social hour and discussion in reference to the forthcoming jubilee this year the meeting closed. SPREYDON BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the association was held last Monday, Mr P. Hennessey presiding. Correspondence was received from the City Council that the application for a sum to be placed on the current year’s estimates for the erection of a library in Spreydon was duly placed before the Finance Committee, when it was decided to hold the application over for consideration when the estimates for the ensuing year were under review. It was agreed to dissociate the association from the views expressed by Messrs Dailey and Longton, delegates from the United Burgesses’ Association, that the Square was not a suitable place for the conveniences, and that the association approves of the election of the conveniences providing a suitable building is erected. It was decided to write to the Post and Telegraph Department pointing out that several public call telephones in the district were not in good working order. Mr E. J. Howard. M.P., delivered ail address on Harbour Board activities, which was illustrated by lantern slides. At the conclusion of his address Mr Howard was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr W. R. Gahagan will give an address on earB r Spreydon at the next monthly meeting of the association. LOCATION OF FIRE ALARMS. In compliance -with a request from the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association, the Christchurch Fire Board has supplied a list of street fire alarms in Spreydon, and for the information of the lesidents their location is appended as follows:—Corner Strickland and Burns Streets, corner Selwyn and Milton Streets, corner Selwyn Street and Redpath Avenue, corner Jerrold and Simeon Streets, comer Barrington and Taramea Streets, corner Edinburgh and Lyttelton Streets, corner Barrington and Cobham Streets, corner Barrington and Milton Streets, corner Barrington and Somerficlc! Streets, corner Selwyn and Somerfield Streets, corner Strickland and Devon Streets, corner Somerfield and Duncan Streets, Frankleigh Street, Stourbrige Street, corner Lyttelton and Cobham Streets, corner Edinburgh and Harker Streets. LOYAL ADDINGTON LODGE, M.U., 1.0.0. F., NO. 6544. The fortnightly meeting of the lodge was held on Monday evening last, when Brother T. H. D. Nelson, N.G., presided. Brothers T. Candy, P.G., and F. Larcombe, V.G., reported on the sick brothers of the lodge, and sick pay due was passed for payment. A maternity benefit of £6 was voted to the wife of a member. Brother H. W. Gourlay, P.G., reported to the lodge on the district's proposals in regard to the jubi-

lee procession, and a ntimber of members volunteered to take an active part. The nominations of officers to fill the chairs of the lodge for the next six months were formally closed by the Noble Grand. The following brothers were nominated:—For N.G., Brother F. Larcombe. V.G.: for V.G., Brother I. A. G. M’Culloch. E.S.; for E.S., Brothers A. Forsyth. J. Trainer and Rudd. On behalf of the lodge. Brother J. A. Clarke, P.P.G.M., made a presentation to P.G. Brother L. A. Gourlay of a framed Past Grand's certificate in recognition of the work he had done while filling the chairs of the lodge. The lodge had the pleasure of the company of a large number of visitors from the Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge. N.G. Brother Nelson extended a cordial welcome to the sisters. After the lodge business had been dispensed with an enjoyable two hours was spent in dancing and games. ADDINGTON LEAGUE SOCIAL CLUB. There was another large attendance at the weekly dance held in the Selwyn Street Hall by the Addington League Social Club last Tuesday evening. The winners of the Monte Carlo competition were Mr Harper and partner, and other winners were as follows: —Lucky spot fox trot, Mr Hancock and partner; lucky spot one-step, Miss Carter and partner; lucky spot waltz, Mr Crow and partner. An advertisement in connection with next week’s dance appears in this issue of the “Star,” and will also appear in Ttiesday’s “Lyttelton Times.”
