NEW ZEALANDER MAKES GOOD SHOWING AS VARSITY BOWLER.

Rain is producing typical English wickets and kept County scores to more recognisable limits, though there were several good partnerships, mostly of old-timers. Yorkshire’s dismissal of Cambridge University for a total of 30 was a startling collapse. Robinson skittled 8 wickets for 13 runs in thirteen overs. Blundell, the Cambridge bowler, who is a New Zealander, made an excellent impression. He made the ball swing either way and had a good length, capturing three or four of Yorkshire’s wickets. COUNTY MATCHES. Hampshire 540 beat Middlesex 200 and 532 for three wickets (Lee 160, Hendren 200. Haigin 103). The game was won on the first innings. West Indies 318 and 118 for six wickets' drew with Surrey 285 and 253 for none t (Hobbs not out 123, Sandham not out 108). Yorkshire 514 for six wickets, declared, beat Essex 226. Macaulay took five wickets for 83 runs, and Rhodes four for 60. In their second innings. Essex made 223 for two (Russell 57 not out, O’Connor 130 not out). Kent 255 and 311 (Legge 56. Longfield 56) beat Leicestershire 234 and 100 for two on the first innings. Astill took six wickets for 7 runs. Lancashire 340 and 232 for four, declared (Ifallows 101 not out) beat Warwickshire 205 and 231 for one (Kilner 137 not out. Bates SO not out), on the first innings. Gloucestershire 330 and 49 for two, won by eight wickets against Sussex, 173 and 202. Hammond took six for 62. Nottinghamshire 333 and 87 for three beat Somerset 159 and 260 (Staples six for 85) by seven wickets. For Glamorgan against Derbyshire, Ryan took six for 88. Glamorgan won.
