NIGHT-WATCHMAN GIVES CHASE TO SEAMEN.
A thoughtless act was committed at about one o’clock this morning by two seamen at Lyttelton. It is stated that, when returning to their ship, the men stepped on the gangway of the tug Lyttelton, and pulled * the whistle cord, causing a short blast to sound.
A Harbour Board nightwatchman heap! the whistle, and saw men running away. He gave chase, but the men were able to board their vessel and hide before the nightwatchman could identify them.
The matter was reported to the chief officer by the watchman. The offence is considered a serious one, and on a footing with the giving of a false fire alarm.
