CRICKET ABSURDITY DISCUSSED BY M.C.C.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, May 16. The Marylebone Cricket Club discussed an absurdity arising out of the conflict of law 2—defining a tie—-with the county rules relating to scoring in competition points. Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire were playing in the minor counties championship. The former made 121 and 238, anrl the latter 273 and S 6 for seven wickets. Marylebone rules that the match was a tie under the laws of cricket, but Bucks gained an advantage in points through leading on the first innings. The Marylebone Club considers that such events are so rare that it is not prepared to alter Law 2, because tests and other matches would be affected.— Australian Press Association—United Service. Rule 2 of the laws of cricket says that “ the side which scores the greatest number of runs wins the match. No match is won unless played out or given up.” The Minor County Cricket Association rule says:—V Five points shall be scored for a win in a completed match. Should the match not be completed, the side leading on the first innings shall score three points, and its opponents one point. In the event of a tie the points shall be divided.”
