WINTER TROTTING AT OAMARU. LARGE FIELDS WILL RACE TO-MORROW. The winter meeting of the Oamaru Trotting Club, to be held to-morrow, will be the last one on the club’s present ground. Since the club was form ed it has made rapid progress and is now one of the best in the Dominion. Always well managed, with a popular let of officials, the club is in good favour with owners and trainers, who liberally patronise the meetings. This is evidenced by the very large acceptance on the present occasion. After this meeting most of the club’s buildings and appointments will go across the road to the Oamaru Jockey Club’s course, the two clubs having come to an arrangement to race on the same course in the future, a condition of affairs which should prove beneficial to both. There should be some excellent racing; although the fields are too large tc provide the best contests. As the season is nearly at an end, and owners have their horses in form, it is only to be expected that they should want to race. The club has made such good progress and has done so much for the sport that the district has become a strong trotting and pacing centre, and a large number of horses are now locally owned. Something, however, will have to be done to reduce the size of the fields. The following is the programme:— 11.45 a.m. INNOVATION HANDICAP (in harness), of 130 sovs. Unhoppled trotters; class 3min 45 sec. One mile and a half. Caterpillar scr Tot Bingen «cr Rose Queen scr Ruby Bingen scr Victor Bingen scr Peter Lynn scr Snider scr , Leo Bellman Bcr Nelson Prince scr Sadie Wilkes scr Criterion scr Tom Wilkes scr Brent Boy scr yds blid Nancy Wattle Patch 3 2 M’Kinney scr J.ade v 48 Lonesome scr Peter Boy - 60 Combine scr Reta Corena 60 Victor Bingen showed good form at Forbury Park and should beat all on the limit. Jade has raced better in her recent efforts, and Peter Boy may take some beating. 12.25 p.m. ADVANCE HANDICAP (in harness), of 130 sovs. One mile and a half. Tiny Bingen scr Grand Light scr Return Madam Voyage scr Locanda scr Onoto scr Harold Bingen scr No Fear scr Prince Bingen scr Golden Vale s.cr yds bhd Becky Mine scr Moneymore 12 Danny Boy scr Forward Maid 24 Lady Bingen scr Danny Boy seems to be racing better, judged by his showing ’at Ashburton, and No Fear should profit by her racing there. Return Voyage is reported to be a useful three-year-old, and the trio will probably have the race to themselves at the finish. This is a slow class race and in view of the larger fields in other events it should have attracted a larger acceptance. 1.5 p.m. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP (in harness), of 450 sovs. Class 4min 3 7 sec. Two miles. Dillon Gold scr yds bhd Shadowland scr Bing Boy 2 i Some Wilkes scr Jackie Lenamhor scr Audubon 24 Genuine scr Jolly Pet 36 Great Actress scr Lady Omaha scr Matchlight 36 Na.ni.wich 12 Brentloc S 6 Honour Bright 24 Jolly Chimes 4 8 Desert Star 2 4 Parkwood 4S There is a good field in the chief event of the day. Of those on the limit, Dillon Gold, Some Wilkes and Omaha do not stay. Shadowland seems to have trained off, and Lenamhor, who is a good stayer, has been racing over short courses of late. Great Actress has more speed than stamina. If Genuine is in his best form he will beat all on the limit. Nantwich, on her recent showing, can have little chance, nor can Honour Bright, Bing Boy or Desert Star. Jackie Audubon is improving, and if he paces solidly he. will be hard to beat. Jolly Pet showed good form at Forbury Park, and Lady Matchlight also did very well when defeated by Quality at Addington. Brentloc cannot stay and Parkwood looks like a back number, but Jolly Chimes is improving. The final issue should see Jolly Pet, Jackie Audubon and Lady Matchlight the money earners, with Genuine, if in his best form, troublesome at the end of the contest.

Saddle races are gradually disappearing from programmes, but they are evidently popular with owners, as there js a big field in this event.. A great deal will depend on the start and a good beginning will play an important part in the contest. The race is started on a bad bend. Imshi is smart away and for that reason is entitled to support, but if Florrie Pointer does her best she should win. Guide Rangi showed some form at the recent Wellington meeting and may have improved since racing there. 2.25 p.m. WAIKAURA HANDICAP (in harness), of 190 sovs. Unhoppled trotters: class 4min 65sec. Two miles.

Judged by the manner in which she raced at Forbury Park, Repute should show up well off the limit. The New Brighton-trained mare is very well at present and on the improve. Of the back-markers Bon Wood, Dolores and Hawkesbury’s Pride read the best. 3.5 p.m. ENFIELD HANDICAP (in harness), of 200 sovs. Class 2min 18sec. One mile and one furlong.

Harry Honour Bright 4S Audubon 24 Talent 60 Dundas Boy will probably be a hot favourite for this event, but if Tommy Direct is in his best form he will be troublesome off the same mark. Arran Chief and Jolly Chimes are the best of the back-markers. Talent, if he was in his best form, would take a lot of beating, but it will be his first race for some time.

3.45 p.m. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP (In harness), of 160 sovs. Class Smtn 36seo. On* mile and a half. Rose Marie sc. yds bhd Actor scr Vican 12 John Appear scr Great Lady Bingen scr Triumph 34 Red Shiner scr Nan Brent 24 Streak scr Needles 34 Petronius scr John Dee 24 yds bhd Slump 36 Florrie Travis Pointer 3 2 Axworthy 48 Milo Min to 12 Klnnjr Dillon 4S Beverley Roi l’Or 48 Audubon 12 Underscrub 60 Petronius is well suited to the distance and he should race well. Vican showed improvement when last raced, and Great Triumph is in good form at present. Travis Axworthy won so easily at Ashburton last week, however, that he will probably be favourite and win the stake. 4.25 p.m. ELECTRIC HANDICAP (in saddle), of 200 sovs. Class 2min 19sec. One mile. Planet scr yds bhd Transport scr Four Bells 12 My Sonny scr Marlnca 12 Nihilist Stormbell 12 Junior scr Doreen Dillon 12 Vikota scr Jazalock 12 Springtime scr Royal Serene 12 Free Pointer scr Erin's Royal 12 Sunstorm scr Glen Farg 12 Great Reta 12 Triumph scr Pointalena 24 Nepia 12 Bing Boy 48 If Great Triumph does not start in the previous race he will receive support. Nepia has never been better and is doing most of his work in saddle, but he is very unreliable. If Jazolock is in his best form he will be hard to beat off 12yds, as he has a fine turn of speed. If all do their work right this should be a better mile, saddle event than is usually seen in such contests, as there are a lot of useful pacers engaged. WANGANUI RACES. LIKELY HORSES. (Special to the “Star.’’) WANGANUI, May 18. Rain has fallen steadily for twelve hours, and it should be fairly heavy for to-morrow’s racing at Wanganui. The acceptances are again very good. Nothing appeals so much as Mister Gamp in the Rata Hurdles. He schooled well this morning for A. M’Donald. Troilus should be next best. Bisox should have plenty of friends in the Balgownie Handicap, with Royal Acre next best. Puwhero probably will be favourite for the Grandstand Steeplechase, but possibly Peter Maxwell will trouble him at the end. Passin’ Through is also a possibility. Glenross looks very likely in the Empire Handicap, while there should be some support for Blimp and Paitonu. Aberfeldy is expected to be produced in the Century Hurdles, but Perle de Leon may prove a hard nut to crack Callanmore should do better in the small field in the Farewell Hack Flat. Fee Simple was unlucky yesterday. A really good field is likely to wind up. The draw will be important, but Arrow Lad, Limited and Benzora should not disgrace themselves. THE AOOXFTAHOES. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, May 18. Following are the acceptances for tomorrow:— RATA HACK HURDLE HANDICAP, of 175 sovs. One mile and a half.
