HIGH PITCH WINS TE RAPA HANDICAP.

(Special to the “ Star.”) HAMILTON, April 30.

The Waikato Racing Club experienced showery weather for the conclusion of the autumn meeting. Valkon, Branson, Le Choucas, Kingfield. and Eh Timi failed to parade in the Te Rapa Handicap, the chief event on the second day of the Waikato meeting. Llandudno (£854), High Pitch (£411), and Corinax (£399), were the favourite selections, with Day Guard, who ran second, carrying £225. New Moon, Day Guard and Corinax were the early leaders, but along the back Day Guard, Ohinemuri, New Moon, Hipo and Corinax were racing in that .order, with High Pitch well back and Te Kara last. Crossing the top Day Guard wafc still in front from Stormy, Princess Ronnie, Queen Arch and Corinax, and they came into the straight in that order, with the rest of the field all bunched. Day Guard looked a likely winner in the run to the post, but Te Kara, King Merv and High Pitch then came on the scene with strong challenges, High Pitch getting the verdict by half a length, with Te Kara third, a similar distance away. Stormy was fourth, followed by King Merv, New Moon and Corinax. Eleven runners contested the Tluntly Hack Handicap, for which Levenside was made a good favourite, carrying £845, with Speechless £419, and the winner, Schorr, £353, next best backed. The first to break the line were Wyoming, Arch Queen, Hajcanoa, Speechless and Cybele. Wyoming still was showing the way as they crossed the top from Hakanoa, Arch' Queen, Speechless, Cybele, Levenside and Star Comet. Star Comet put in a fast run at this stage and was first to enter the straight, attended by Wyoming, Hakanoa, Modest Boy, Bchorr and Levenside, and in the run to the judge Schdrr came through and won nicely by three-quarters of a length from Modest Boy, who beat Star Comet by a neck. Auriculus was fourth.. Then came Levenside, Wyoming and Cybele. Stormy, Cynthia N. and Glen Star were the defections from the Rangiriri Handicap. Daylight was made favourite, while Mervette and Town Bank also came in for solid backing. When the barrier lifted Te Koroke was turned the wrong way and lost many lengths. Rarakau and Regent were the early leaders and showed the way along the back. Crossing the top Regent had taken charge, his nearest attendants being Daylight, Oration, Mervette, Rarakaut Matinee, Town Bank and King Smock. A good fini'sh saw King Smock prevail by a neck from Town ‘Bank and Daylight, who dead-heated for second place. Mervette was next, followed by Archeno, Oration and Te Koroke. TROTTING DERBY.
