NEW POLICE STATION AT NORTH BRIGHTON.

APPOINTMENTS MADE TO LOCAL STATION

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, May 1. A number of promotions and changes affecting officers o’f the police force are announced by the Commissioner. Senior-Sergeant O'Hara, of Dannevirke, is transferred to Christchurch, replacing Senior-Sergeant Lewis, deceased. Sergeant S. J. Martin is transferred from New Plymouth to fill the Dannevirke vacancy. Sergeant T. I. M’Gregor is transferred from Christchurch to New Plymouth. Sergeant F. Hammond, of Auckland, takes charge of Ponsonbv, replacing Sergeant Waterman, retired. Sergeant L. R. Capp, of Auckland, takes charge of Dargaville, replacing Sergeant Griffiths, retired. Sergeant G. 11. Lambert, Auckland, takes charge of Otahuhu, replacing Sergeant Parsons, retired. Constable P. Doyle, Te Awamutu, is promoted to sergeant and is transferred to Auckland.

Constable Bruce Thompson, of Ellerslie. is promoted to sergeant, and will remain in Auckland. Constable S. G. Clist. of Taneatua, is promoted to sergeant, and is transferred to Auckland.

Constable T Martin, of Napier, with several years’ plain clothes duty, is promoted to sergeant, and is transferred to Christchurch. Constable J. Abel, of Lumsden, is promoted sergeant, and is transferred to Invercargill, replacing Sergeant Hewitt, transferred to the detective branch at Invercargill. Constable E. Burnett, of Coromandel, is promoted to sergeant, and is transferred to‘Auckland. Constable F. C. Harrison, of Patutahi. Gisborne, is transferred to Christchurch. and is promoted to sergeant. Detective J. Thompson is transferred from Christchurch to the Detective Office, Wellington. Constable 11. M’Kay, of Addington, takes charge of a new station at North New Brighton. POLICE WERE DUCKED IN WAIKATO RIVER. (Special to the “ Star. ') AUCKLAND, May 1. Sergeant F. A. Waterman, who has been in charge of the Ponsonby police district, retired to-day, after Ml years’ service. He came from England with his parents, and as a young man was associated with his father in general business at Oxford, Canterbury. During the war period he was one of the police party sent to a pa near Mercer (where he was stationed) to round up forty young natives who refused to be conscripted. They had to be carried bodily to motor-cars and then placed in a railway carriage for consignment to Auckland. History records that some eventually made good soldiers.
