canterbury association. The Management Committee of the Canterburv Cricket Association met last evening:. Present—Messrs R. B. Ward (chairman), W. H. Winsor, H. M. Chrystall, L. D. Page, C. T. Rix, C. S. Thompson. A. Dev, W. L. King, W. J. V. Hamilton, R. C. Burns, M. O. Sinclair and E. E. Luttrell (honorary secretary/. Mr King raised the question of the light at the south ground at Lancaster Park. He thought that the Board of Control should do something to improve present conditions. The chairman expressed the hope that it could be arranged for trees to be topped at. Lancaster Park in order to better the light. The Llnwood Club -wrote acknowledging an account for fines imposed foi failure to send in returns. The club considered that as it had not been notiged of the intention of the executive to Impose fines, the matter was unreasonable. The club hoped that the fines would be remitted. Mr Thompson moved, and Mr King seconded, that the fine be remitted. The mover explained that his motion was intended as an act of grace. Mr Chrystall and other members opposed the motion, which was lost. The Coaching Committee reported a v.ery satisfactory season. The committee recommended that only players fiom clubs playing first grade cricket be coached. The report concluded: “The coaching wickets provided last season, to say the least, were not too good, and in this respect your committee recommends that arrangements 1n connection with the grounds be made at the commencement of the season.” The report was referred back to the Coaching Committee for further consideration. The cups won during the season were presented by the chairman to the delegates of the winning clubs. DISTRICT CRICKET. The much-debated question of district cricket came up again before the Management Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening. Mr D. Wanklyn, chairman of the committee appointed by the association to consider the question, said that it was apparent that there was no hope of agreement amongst the committee on any form of recommendation. The committee was of the opinion, however, that some good purpose would be served of having a referendum of all cricketers in the matter. It had been suggested that the ballot paper should contain (1) Rigid district cricket. (2) District cricket for all future players. Existing members to stay with their own clubs, except members of old boys’ clubs, who would join district (3) Club cricket. It was also recommended that it should be explained on the voting paper that the result of the ballot was not binding on the association. After discussion, during which some members expressed the opinion that the clubs had nothing on which to form a decision, it was decided to send the report back to the committee and ask for a fuller report. The following recommendations for the 3 928-29 season were forwarded from the Competitions Committee at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association:— “ That a selected senior match, which in the committee’s opinion will be the most interesting to the public, be allotted each Saturday to the oval at Lancaster Park, only one game to be played on the oval and a charge for admission be made. “ In all grades, with the exception of fourth grade, points to be counted till five playing Saturdays remain; after that the top four teams to play off in a semi-final and final, the winner of the final to be the winner of the competi- “ That the fourth grade be divided into two sections, A school teams and B club teams; thajt the top two teams in each section play a semi-final and final to decide the winner of the competition. 44 That the Petersen Shield points be amended as follows:—Senior A, multiplied by 4; senior B and junior A, multiplied by 3f junior B, multiplied by 2; third grade, multiplied by 11; fourth grade, mutipied by j. 44 That there he not more than twelve teams in any one competition. 44 That the present arrangements of allotting two Saturdays for a match irrespective of weather conditions be abolished. 44 That the penalty provided for under Rule No. BO be rigidly enforced from the beginning of the season. 44 That the two cups presented to the Canterbury Cricket Association by Messrs W.
