GARDENS AND ORCHARDS SUFFER AT AKAROA.

(Special to the "Star.”) AKAROA, May 1 The worst south-easterly gale for many years raged here last night, accompanied with very heavy rain. A good deal of damage was done in the gardens and orchards, trees being stripped of fruit. The heavy downfall will greatly benefit the pastures. The weather Js a till dull and showery.
