For publishing a trotting guide containing a programme without the permission of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, John Stacey Adeane was fined 10s and costs. On behalf of Adeane, counsel admitted the publication, but questioned whether it was a programme within the meaning of the law. He said that his client would like the question as to whether this publication was a programme cleared up. Mr M’Kcan, the Magistrate, said that there was no doubt the document came under the jurisdiction of the Police Offences Act. In imposing the pentlv. Mr M'Kean remarked that it was the first ca.se here brought under this section. There would hardly be any difficulty in raking up the fine, as Adeane and his partner won £20,000 in a Tattersall’s sweepstake on the last Melbourne Cup.
