There is a representative entry, with thirty-two foreigners, including Spanish, Argentine and French players. There are ten Americans, among whom are Walter Hagen and Barnes, but Bobby Jones will not defend the title. The first qualifying round will be played at St George’s, where the New Zealanders Gillies and G. F. D. Gunson will be playing.—United Service. AVONDALE CLUB. During the week-end the annual match with the JTororata Club was played on the Avondale links and resulted in a substantial win for the home team. It would seem that the association of Ilororata. and the Avondale Clubs is conducive to holing in one. On the occasion of the last match at Hororata this feat was twice performed in the one day and this year, although no member of the competing team was so unfortunate, J. H. Dalton, of the Avondale Club, playing during the same afternoon, holed out at "The Manukas”— 94 yards—in one, and it is understood will pay the usual penalty in due course. Scales Cup.
