"He started to run when he saw me, said a constable, when giving evidence against James JJ-llam. who ■was charged with being unlawfully on the premises of the Cafe de Paris Hotel. "I caught him. It was after 7 p.m. He said he had been in to see the porter, an old friend, whg had given him a drink, for.wllich no money was paid. I went in and saw tire porter, but the porter had not seen accused on the premises. In fact, he had not .seen him for over two years." That evidence was sufficient for the Magistrate, who imposed on defendant a fine of £2 and costs.
