RADIO PRAISED BY MINISTER OF HEALTH.
DOING GOOD WORK IN THE HOSPITALS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 16, 11.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 16. A conference of the Association for the Development of Wireless in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji decided to send a telegram to Mr Bruce, requesting certain amendments to the Bill which is being introduced in the House of Representatives to enact an agreement between Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd., and the Federal Government. The president, Mr George Taylor, said that, the five-year period in which no royalties would be charged for the use of patents for broadcasting should also cover television and other important radio improvements. The Bill should be amended to allow of the interlinking of country centres. The Minister of Health, Dr Arthur, said that, radio was bringing country dwellers' into contact with all sorts of influences that they had been denied previously, and was making them more contented with their lot. Listening sets in hospitals had become therapeutic agents, diverting the patients' minds from their troubles.
