W.E.A. NOTES
(Contributed.) The public .speaking class, which was carried on by the students after the completion of the tutor's term, finished up on Monday evening with a mock banquet. There was a good attendance of members, and Mr George Manning, secretary of th<* W.E.A., was present as the guest of 'the evening. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs E. R. Morrison. M. J. Clark and T. A. Stewart, each of whom sent a donation. The following toasts were honoured: “ The W.E A., on securing paid tutors by the Government.” proposed by Mr Manning, replied to by Mr Smith; “The University, on its loyalty to the Government during the late industrial strike,” Mr S. Efford —Mr C. Kavana.gh; “ The Socialist Party, on attaining majority,in Parliament,” Mr S. Efford —Mr O. IT. Goodman: “ Women's Suffrage, on gaining votes for women,” Miss’ M. A. M'Lachlan—Mrs Biesal; “ The Ladies, on the work of organising this function,” Mr Bullen—Mrs Semb; “ The W.C.T.U., on the carrying of Prohibition,” Mrs Bullen—Mrs Temple: “ The Citizens’ Association, on Defeat of Labour Council,” Mr If. Bennett — Mr.R. Macfarlane; "Licensed Victuallers, on defeat of prohibition,” Mr Duncan — Mrs C. Kavanagh; “Farmers’ Union, on carrying of amendment to the I.C. and A. Act,” Mr Conibear—Mr Smith: “Trade Unions, on defeat of proposed amendments to I.C. and A. Act,” Mr R. Macfarlane —Mr Conibear. During the evening items were contributed by Mrs Bullen. Miss Richardson, Mr Bullen, Mrs Temple and Mr M’Glinchy. The toasts to the chairman, Mr M’Glinchy, and the secretary, Miss M’Lachlan, were also drunk, and a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “ Auld
