POLICE RAIDED BOOKIE’S SHOP.
£IOO FINE IMPOSED IN AUCKLAND CASE.

Henry Saunders, aged 29, pleaded guilty this morning to a charge of keeping a common gaming house in the Elite tailoring rooms, in Customs Street, and Roy Thomas Tabrum pleaded guilty to assisting Saunders in the management The police gave evidence that Saunders had been fined £75 on a similar charge on January 3, but continued bookmaking extensively. As the result of information, the premises were raided yesterday and large quantities of betting material were seized. While the police were in possession, bets were received over the telephone, and the results of the Hastings races, with dividends. Saunders was fined £IOO and Tabrum £SO. For bookmaking at the Auckland trots yesterday, two young silver bettors, Charles Osfiiond Baker and Albert Hyland, who were said to be out of work, wereVJined £lO apiece.
