COUNCIL CUTS STAFF WAGES.
NEW PARTY DECIDES POLICY IN WANGANUI. (Special to the “Star.”) WANGANUI, June 22. The City Council last evening applied the runing knife to the salaries of all heads of staffs and the reductions are from £l2 to £SO. The matter of reducing the engineer’s salary by £IOO is still under consideration. In addition it has been decided that the inspectors’ staff be reduced by the dismissal of one inspector who has been with the city several years. A draughtsman is also to receive notice. It is still impossible to reduce the rate, which will remain at lOd. The Mayor and members of the old council were strenuously opposed to salary cuts, but were outvoted by what is known as the City Progressive Party.
