DANCE SCENE CANCELLED AT FAMOUS CLUB.

SEQUEL TO COMPLAINTS AT SCOTLAND YARD. LONDON, May 2. Action by Scotland Yard has led to two well-known dancers being prohibited from appearing at the Embassy Club, Bond Street. It is_ stated that this follows upon complaints made to Scotland Yard, but those associated with the management of the club say that they are at a loss to understand the reason for the police move. The dancers are Mile. Roseray and M. Capella, who have appeared in most of the capitals of the world. They were engaged for the Embassy by Mr Albert de Courville, the theatrical producer, at a fee approaching £IOOO for three weeks. On Wednesday night an inspector from Vine Street Police Station called at the club and informed the manager, M. Luigi, that complaints had been lodged at Scotland Yard about the performance of the two dancers, and that steps must be taken immediately to put the matter right. Reason Unknown. “I am completely in the dark as to the nature of the complaint,” said Mr de Courville last night. “Before, when any of my people have not met with the Censor’s approval, I have had a polite intimation of what -was wrong, and I have immediately taken steps to put things right.” Roseray and Capella were informed two hoars before the cabaret that they would not bo allowed to appear, “They were naturally amaaed,” said Mr de Courville, “and not a little angry. “This morning M. Luigi and myself called at Scotland Yard, but we could get no information. “We dare not go on with the show. Unless I can get more definite information from the Commissioner of Police I shall have to make an application elsewhere. Wearing More Clothes. “There is nothing improper in the performance. It is very beautiful classical dancing in a dim light. The. dancers are wearing more clothes in London than they have in any other city. “Roseray and Capella have just come from a great success in New York. They are known throughout the world as very beautiful artists and have also been very successful in Chicago—where police restrictions are very severe— Boston, Vienna, Berne, Paris and Madrid.” Late last night M. Luigi said he had received no further notification as to why the dancers had been banned. “I am now seeking counsel’s advice as to what action I should take,” he told a Press representative. He said the dancers had not actually been banned by the police, but following the protest from Scotland Yard, he himself had forbidden them to appear. In one of the dances, Roseray, with one toe lodged at the back of Capella’s neck, is swung by him round and round in circles at a great speed. Spectators have been thrilled at the apparently precarious grip.
