PAGEANT COMMITTEE DISBURSES FUNDS.

A meeting of Canterbury Pageants Incorporated was held last evening in the Officers’ Club rooms, Colonel-Com-mandant M.AI. Gard’ner, D. 5.0., presiding. The executive reported a successful termination of the pageant and tattoo which was held from March. 31 to April 5. The spectacle did much to show to the general public the efficiency of the Territorial force in this province, and the undertaking had been the means of creating a considerable amount of healthy public spirit of service amongst the community as a whole, as probably several thousand people co-operated in making the success which had been achieved, and many organisations benefited either directly or indirectly through the effort. The executive desired to place on record its appreciation of the help given by “Britannia” (Aliss Dulcie Al’Credie), the five queens (Airs 11. T Little, Airs Peek, the Hon Airs. Tabu Rhodes, Aliss Nancy Gard’ner and Aliss Alillicent Jennings) and their maids of honour, who made possible the pageantry in connection with the first item on the programme. Acknowledgement was made of the good work of the bands and the Territorials and Cadets who took part in the pageant. After many members had spoken enthusiastically of the work of Air R. de G. Robilliard, who acted as secretary and treasurer, an extra honorarium of £SO was granted to him in appreciation of his services. The following recommendations from the executive were adopted:— That £IOO be set aside for the N.C.O.’s Club and £SO for the Cadet N.C.O.’s Club, and that a sub-committee comprising Colonel the Hon G. J. Smith, LieutenantColonels Wickens and Hurst, Major Brooker and Captain Dougall be set up to confer with the officials of the two clubs that the grants may be wisely expended. That £25 be paid to each of the six bands in the regimental district for their bands’ funds. (The six include secondary school bands.) That £2O be paid to each of the ten units in the regimental districts for their unit funds. That the balance of the money be invested "pending assurance from the Government of a subsidy with which to build new offices and a gymnasium on the present site of the offices attached to the King Edward Barracks, If the Government decline to build new offices on the top of which a gymnasium could be built, that the money be invested for the furtherance of the objects of the pageant. It was decided to grant £SO to the Garrison Sports Association. Recommendations to revive publication of the “New Zealand Alilitary Journal ” and to form a branch in Christchurch of the New Zealand Defence Eeague were lost.
