DARK SECRET KEPT AT GENEVA
NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ECONOMIC MEETING IS ALL ABOUT. By Telegraph.—Press Assp.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 7. 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 6. The Australian Press Association's special correspondent at Geneva states: “Exactly what the Conference is all about seems to be kept a dark secret, most of the speeches showing that the participants are merely hoping to find a panacea for the world's ills. Deep behind the masses of statistics there is, however, an idea shared by most European countries that the most practical move towards world reconstruction and general good times would be the cancellation of war debts and reparations. This has considerably pertubed the American delegates, who in the corridors are freely letting it be known that they are ready for this proposal and will oppose it strenuously. The policy of all the dominions appears to be a watching brief. "No dominion delegate has so far ascended the rostrum, but their interest is keen. No point is passed unnoticed, the liaison within Empire delegations being perfect.
