GARDEN FETE.
Not even the inclemency of the weather could damp the spirits or cool the ardour of those who attended the garden fete in the beautiful Richmond garden of Air and Mrs J. A. Flesher. The prettily decorated stalls were effectively set off by the foliage of the many beautiful trees and the varied colourings of the flowers formed a lovely contrast. The south-west wind could not spoil the well-known rose arches that surrounded the trim and well cut tennis lawns, and the hostess received many congratulations on the appearance of the grounds, and the pleasure it gave her guests, and the well-wishers of the Methodist Church, to have an op portunity of seeing them. The afternoon was organised by Airs C! Overton, assisted by the Ladies’ Guild of the Durham Street Methodist Church, to raise funds for the general church fund. The stalls and stall-holders were:— Work stall, Alesdames G. Ellen, D. Jones, J. P. Whetter and W. Congreve; tennis stall, Alessrs H. Flesher and Spratt; cake stall, Ales dames W. Moor and A. Burrow; sweet stall, Alisses Ellen, Hill an<J Rudd; afternoon tea, Alesdames A. Sandford, W. J. Spratt, C. Opie and C. K. Wrigglesworth; ice cream, Misses Dunstan and Boswarwick; Christmas Tree, Miss Partridge and helpers.
