In the North Canterbury Association's senior competition, Wooden* 206 <R. Smith 36, H. Sail 37, Ballinger 29, Judson 24, P. Nixon 35, A. Smith 11, Little 10, E. Smith 15 not out) defeated, Lobyrn SO and 59 (Parker 10. Lindsay 10) by an innings and 58 runs. For WoOdend. Nixon took six wickets for 23 runs, A. Smith two for 11, E- Smith one for 8. For Loburn, Croft took seven wickets for 50 runs, and Parker two for 62. ASHBURTON. The firgl set of matches in the second round of the Ashburton County Cricket Association's competitions was commenced oh Saturday afternoon, but the rain caused the abandonment of most of the contests about 4 p.m. SENIOR QRAPE. In the first grade match between Fairfield and Mayfield, at Fairfield, Mavfield went tri first and had knocked up 55 for the loss of two wickets when stumps .were drawn, Penrose, sen., being top scorer with 31. Against Ashburton A, Ashburton B compiled 128 for eight wickets, the best scorers being F. J. Jacobs 39, J. B. Nicoll 4 0 not out, C. Brady 14. JUNIOR A GRAPE. . St Stephen's went to the crease first «n the match against Lauriston, at Lauriston, and were all out for 40, P. L. Little being tpp scorer with 11. Lauriston replied with 29 for five wickets. The better bowlers for Lauriston were Hftiidacaon, three Wickets for 15 runs, and J. Bennett, six for 20. As was the case in the other matches, stumps were drawn early on account of the weather, heavy rain and snow making further play impossible. Rakaia met Fairfield in a junior A •grade match on the former’s ground. Rakaia knocked up 92 runs for five wickets (J. C. Hawksworth 21, L. Houghton 18, H. Butters 16, A. W. Knight 15). Stumps then were drawn. For Fairfield, G. Willis took two wickets of 20 runs, K. Fowke two for 27, and O- Urquhart one for 29. Methven met High School A on the High School grounds, tlio former taking the field first and being dispatched for 9fl (C. Topp 35, H. M’Donald 10, Pennells 13 and S. Hamnden 10). School made 33 for the loss of one wicket (R. Blggar not out 23). Bowling for High School, Biggar took four wickets for 39 runs, and W, Keenan six for 44. JUNIOR B GRAPE. In their first strike against Tinwald, at Tinwald, High School B compiled 47, A. Baigent, 21, being the only doublefigure scorer.
