A feature of the Domain fete on Saturday was that no damage was done to the flowers or shrubs in the Botanic Gardens, according to the Curator (Mr J. Young). Outstanding displays in the Gaxde.ns are the rose-beds and the calceolarias and schizanthus in the Townend House. Given fine weather the rose gardens should be at their best in a few days’ time. The calceolarias and schizanthus will have their bloom in about a week, and their gorgeousness will be replaced by that of gloxnia6 and streptOcarptu* Bananas are ripe on the huge tree in the Cuningham Winter Garden. Two wells are being sunk in the rock and bog garden to give extra water supply A contemplated improvement to the site of the Bandsmen’s Memorial Rotunda is the erection of a surround ing fence of netting surmounted by a pipe railing, the whole to be covered in course of time by climbing flowers.
