CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS PARTY.
The carnival spirit was abroad iast Saturday afternoon on the occasion of a children’s plain and fancy dress party held under the auspices of the Beckenham Catholic School fund in the Beckenham Hall, Somerfield Street. The function was a great, success and between three and four hundred children in various fancy dresses enjoyed themselves. Judging of the dresses was carried out by Alisses Morkanc and Kelly. Prizes were awarded as follow:—Under 3—Girls: Peggy Gee (Early Victorian) 1, Betty Turnbull (Jockey) 2. , Boys: Paul O’Conn of (Cupid) 3, Donald Campbell (Wasp) 2. Over 3 and under 7- Girls: Marjorie Drain (Icecream) 1. ( Rose) 2. Boys: Ernest Gibbons (Greenleaf) 1. Denis Petersen (Alt Black) 2. Over 7 and under 11=—Girls: Noe tine Harper (Spring Blossom) 1. Tovce Wicks (Fruit and Vegetable Garden) 2. Boys: Cedric Cox (Boy as Girl) J, Ray Fowke (Orange Smile) 2. Over 11 and under 35—Girls: Agnes Bare.tta (Grandmother) 1, Rene Gilliuin.(Carnival) 42. Boys: Jack Molinscy (Chimney Sweep) 1, Marshall James (Robinson Crusoe) 2. Bestdressed pair—Freddy Leigh (Jack Horner) and Vera Holmes (Harem Lady). Most original—Doris Gabb (Chips) and Eileen O’Connor (Eve). Cheapest, dress —“Who will be Miss New Zealand?” 1, Prime Canterbury 2. Best paper dresses—The Rooster 1, Early Victorian 2. Best pair—Miss Vanity and Her Courtier (little June and Douglas Shepherd). Largest, families in fancy dress •“-Mrs Glassenburv and Airs Turnbull. A successful baby show was held in connection with the party, an unusually large number of entries being received. The AI ay dress (Mrs J. K. Archer), assisted by Airs Rvan, of Sydney, had a strenuous task in deciding the different, classes.
