“ GO ON, FATHER, CLEAN HIM UP!”

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 27. On the evening of Saturday, November 13, Michael Blewman was doing a roaring trade with a pie cart at the corner of Blair Street and Courtenay Place. The crowd became too great for Blewman and his assistant, with the result that some noisiness occurred. Hereupon a neighbouring resident and his son took a hand. A youth named Alfred Holder, who was standing near and saw all the fun, described the events in the Police Court yesterday. He said Stevens, jun., came down and told the people not to make so much noise, and to move away, lie then called out to his father to come down, saying: “Dad, we can just about manage the lot of them.” Stevens, sen., accepted the invitation. W hen the row started Blewman objected to what was going on. This resulted in a complete affray. Blewman came out with a black eve and some patches. Holden declared that Stevens, jun., called out: “Go on, father. Clean him upl" and it was alleged that Stevens, sen., used both hands and feet to obtain results. Constable Stephenson, who stated that by the time he was called the fight was over, interviewed the Stevens in their room, and was of opinion that they had had liquor. The “cleaning up" process cost the Stevens £1 each, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
