PERNICIOUS FILMS HIT BY JUDGE.
HAVING BAD INFLUENCE ON YOUTH OF COUNTRY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn-—-Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 26, 10.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 26. Burgess, who yesterday was found guilty of manslaughter, was sentenced to one year’s gaol, sentence to be suspended under the First Offenders Act. The Judge remarked that he accepted accused's counsel’s contention that Burgess was influenced to some extent by pernicious picture shows, at which lawlessness was presented as something to be admired, and where men who used revolvers and knives were held up as heroes. The Judge said that there were circumstances connected with picture shows which were having an evil influence on the youth of the country. David Allen Burgess fatally shot James Riddell, seventeen, in a gang feud in a street in Annandale.
