POPULAR RAILWAY OFFICER RETIRES.

Completing over twenty'eight years’ service as foreman of the railway goods sheds at Christchurch and forty' years’ service with the Railway' Department, Mr Andrew Bambery retired on Saturday last on superannuation. On his retirement Mr Bambery received several presentations. On Friday' representatives of the Customs agents and carrying companies met to bid him farewell. Mr Patten spoke of Mr Bambery's long and useful service, and on behalf of the gathering presented him with a handsome cheque as a mark of esteem. Others also spoke of Mr Bambery’s service and expressed regret at losing him.

On Saturday morning about 140 men who worked immediately' under Mr Bambery at the goods shed met to say farewell to their chief. The gifts on this occasion were a Kaiapoi rug, oak secretaire and an timbrella.

Later in the morning the offee and uniform staff met Mr Bambery' and presented him with an easy' chair.
