“AT HOME.”

LADIES’ COMMITTEE OF C.A.A. ENTERTAIN. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Canterbury Automobile Association’s. rooms yesterday', when the members of the ladies’ committee held their first “at home”. The rooms were artistically' decorated with maple foliage and beautiful roses in crystal vases. Mr B. Falck, who welcomed Mr and Mrs Archer and Mr and Mrs Neville, and all present, spoke briefly on the forming of the ladies’ committee of the C.A.A.. and expressed his appreciation of what had already been accomplished b\ r lady members of the association. He expressed the hope that the ladies would in everv way be successful in the future. Mr Falck introduced Mrs J. W. Simes, chairwoman of the ladies’ committee, and said that as two hundred members of the association were ladies they should have more voice in affairs than in the past. As the ladies’ committee had been formed it was decided to hold an “at home” that all the members might meet. Airs Simes welcomed the guests and thanked them for attending. She, expressed the wish that all members who could would assist the committee in every way possible; and that manv pleasant gatherings would be held in the future. A programme, of music was greatly appreciated. Those contributing items were: Mrs W. J. Hunter (songs), Mrs W. R. Carey (pianoforte solo), Mrs R. Twyneham (violin solo), Mr FI. G. Glaysher (harp), •Mr T. Charters (songs), and Mr A. Johnston (musical monologue). Mrs W. R. Carey' was the accompaniste. Afternoon tea was served in an adjoining room, where the tables were decked with roses. The members of the ladies’ committee are: Mrs J. tV. Simes (chairwoman). Mesdames B. Falck, M. Cordv, H. C. Harley', W. J. Hunter, F. FI. Bruges and Miss A. M. Bowker (hon. secretary'). Mrs J. \V. Simes. who received the guests, wore a charming frock of black georgette, trimmed with inset squares of the pleated material, and made with a long coat effect and a pleated frill jabot of cream georgette. A small black straw hat, with a black velvet bow completed her toilette. Miss Bowker wore a block frock with cinnamon vest, black tailored coat, black hat with moire silk trimming; Mrs M. Cordy, frock of black crepe de chine with patterned skirt, with braided trimming touched with silver at the Waist and neck, black satin hat with black and white osprey' mount: Mrs W. J. Hunter, attractive ensemble frock of floral crepe de chine, with shades of cyclamen and blue predominating, cyclamen repp clot.h tailored and hat of same shade with rosettes of corded ribbon: Mrs T. H. Bruges, floral georgette frock, designed in rose pink and gold on navy-blue ground, with inset side panels of plain blue, small black hat with an appliqued mount; Mrs Archer, striped silk frock, tailored coat of bottle-green repp cloth, fawn silk hat with flower mount to tone; Mrs J. S. Neville, black crepe de chine frock, and wide-brimmed hat.
