HOSPITAL BOARD IN FAVOUR OF GIFT TO MARK DUKE’S VISIT.

“I think we are strong loyalists as far as Christchurch is concerned," said the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr 11. J. Otley), in referring at the meeting to-day to the impending visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. “T think that the sum of £ls 15s should be contributed towards the expenses of their entertainment." The chairman and Mr 11. 11. Holland. M.P, were appointed to represent the board at the meeting to lie convened by the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), and the matter of a contribution was referred to the Finance Committee. The subject was brought up by the reception of a circular letter from the Mayor, in- which he asked local bodies and others interested to assist in the arrangements and to give financial SUppOrt. : Mr F. tlorrell asked whether the Hospital Board was a local body. By the board's giving financial assistance it would mean that local bodies, which maintained the hospital, would be asked to contribute twice. Mr Archer said there was such a thing as setting the fashion.
