EDGEWARE TENNIS CLUB* The new season for the club is progressing most satisfactorily* The club competitions are now in full swing* the few games which have been played resulting in close finishes* The A team, consisting of Misses X* and M* Ives, Miss Armstrong and Mrs Forgie, Messrs Pearson, R* Roberts, A* Roberts and Webb, have played three matches, winning two* The new pavilion has been a source of great comfort to the players, particularly to the ladies* who entertain the rival suburban clubs in friendly matches in the mid-week* PERSONAL* Miss Muriel Hunter Soanes, of Forfar Street (a pupil of Misses F. and E. Shillito) has passed her piano examination for the Royal Academy of Music. NOTES. The Shirley Cricket Club was well represented in the Sub-Association’s Shield match by A. Cullen and E. Taylor. Union last Thursday night a very interesting and instructive address was given in the schoolroom by Professor Shelley and U)r Phillips on open-air schools. The hall was filled by a very appreciative audience. Pictures illustrating the points of the lecture were shown by Colonel A. E. Loach. At the close of the address a vote of thanks by acclamation was passed to the lecturer on the motion of the vicar. ST MATTHEW’S CHURCH. The last of the socials for the season by the Communicants* Guild was held in the St Matthew's schoolroom on Thursday last. There was a good attendance, musical items being given by several members. Games, competitionsand with a short dance concluded one of the most interesting of the guild's season’s activities. GENERAL. The agitation for a new Shirley-St Albans post office is still bepursued. According to rumours something may eventuate from the present agitation. The remodelling of Barbadoes Street North will be of immense benefit to those people in the vicinity, as the new road will be finished off with a bitumen mix.
