24 HOURS’ RACE AT THE STADIUM TO-NIGHT
WHIPPET RACING AND BIG CASH SPRINT. The iong-looked-for twenty-four hours’ cycle race will commence at the Engl.sh Park Stadium to-night. That interest has been gradually increasing is j.roved by the fact that several more teams have expressed a desire to enter, but the number must of necessity be restricted. The Australian team (Marshall and Scruise) are the favourites for the race, closely followed by Mackie and Henderson, and Leatham and Ritchie. The new additions to the race are R. Laskey, the road champion, and T. Ward, the Timaru champion] who are well-known to the public! With the weather in their favour it is estimated that about 500 miles will be covered. There will also be novelty events, open races, and whippet racing, and the Stadium gift, which will be run before the big race starts, and during its progress on Saturday afternoon several items will be run off, besides special sprints for the competitors in the twenty.fpur hours' race.
