JAMAICA REJECTS CHANGE IN CONSTITUTION.

Elected and official members of the Legislative Council rejected the proposed change in the Jamaican constitution offered by the British Government that elected members should have a permanent majority in the Council with the appointment of five members by the Government to the Executive Council. It w*as asserted that the proposed change w'ould be a retrograde step likely to lead to a purely Crown Colony. The fear was expressed that successive Governors might exercise an over-riding power in certain matters and be supported by the Colonial office.
