“The Mayor probably knows more about fires than I do,” said Mr E. J. Howard. M.P., at the opening of the new Sydenham Fire Station last night. He referred to Mr Archer’s speech earlier in the evening. “However, he is an expert along those lines. He’s been trying to save us from the fire for years—and now we hear that those fires don’t exist,” he added amid laughter.
