A SPLENDID COMPETITION.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO. TO DAY appears the first of the series of five blocks of animal’s heads, * Yesterday the first set of bodies appeared. Publication will follow — bodies on Saturdays, heads* on Wednesdays—until the full number of one hundred has appeared. What you have to do is decide which are the correct heads for the various bodies. Bear in mind that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO NAME THEM. You will see that the lion’s head (No. 7) belongs to the lion’s body (No. 10), and you will be sure to find some others. Then perhaps mother and father might give you just a little help when you are in difficulties. Next week, when more heads and bodies appear, you will be able to find others, and if you cut the pictures out of the paper and keep them until the last appears, by then you will be able to find a head for every body. Follow the specimen given in the paper, and make out your list. The closing date of the competition will be announced later. If there is anything you do not understand, write to “ EVANGELINE,” and your question will be answered in the “INQUIRY” column as soon as possible. It must be remembered that the heads do not exactly fit the bodies, but can be pieced together by general appearances. Another point to remember is that the corresponding heads for the bodies in this week are not necessarily to be found in the block of heads on Wednesday. For every head and body correctly joined ten marks will be given, and for every one wrong five marks will be deducted. The first sot of bodies appeared in the “ Star ” of Saturday, November 6, and the first set of heads in the “ Star ” of Wednesday, November 10. For the benefit of those children who missed the commencement of the Competition the first set of bodies was republished yesterday, while the first set of heads appears in to-day’s issue. RULES GOVERNING THE COMPETITION. 1. No boy or girl connected either directly or indirectly with the staff of either the Auckland “ Star,” Christchurch “ Star ” or Wellington “ Evening Post” will be allowed to compete. 2. With the exceptions provided for in Rule No. 1, this competition is open to all children throughout New Zealand, providing they are under IS years of age. 3. Every entry must be accompanied by the ten coupons, one of which will be provided with each series of heads and bodies. Without these ten numbered coupons no entry will be received. 4. You can send in as many attempts as vox* wish, providing each effort is accompanied by the ten coupons, as provided in Rule 3. 5. All entries must be in ink or ink pencil. Any alteration to a number will be counted as wrong. 6. Each sheet of paper must bear your full name, age, and address. Writ* on one side of the paper only. 7. The drawings, if cut out and joined up, are not to be sent in with 3-ourenty. A form similar to the one appearing elsewhere is to be used, and no correspondence is to appear on your ervjry. 8.
